Welcome twilight.
Welcome blackness.
Welcome inky night.
Only in darkness
Can I see your soul.
Lost Verses of Krrendar,
CY 9542
[Observation
deck]
(Lots
of aliens applaud Hunt's speech from the rostrum.)
HUNT: Two years. Two years since we started, and this is only the
beginning. Today, we establish a new Systems Commonwealth. This day
marks the next stage of a dream. A dream of hope, a dream of freedom, a
dream that will rekindle the light of civilisation.
Because you, the delegates from the fifty member worlds, will ratify
our Commonwealth Charter, unifying us all, and elect our first
Triumvir.
WOMAN: Dylan Hunt for Triumvir! Dylan Hunt for Triumvir!
HUNT: Who will not be me.
ALL: Oh.
HUNT: You are among the best and the brightest the universe has to
offer. The Commonwealth will be well served by any one of you. Now,
please, mingle, and enjoy my ship's hospitality. Thank you very much.
WOMAN: I'm so excited to meet you. I've heard so much about you.
HUNT: Thank you, thank you.
BEKA: We've waited for two years for this day. I can't believe Harper's
missing it.
ROMMIE: Oh well, Dylan thought it would be best for everyone concerned
if Harper was far, far away from the delegates.
[Machine
shop]
(Harper
is building something rather large and rocket-like.)
HARPER: (sings) Oh Roseanna, oh, don't you cry for me. For I come from
Louisiana with a bad girl on my knee. KaBoom. That's right, baby.
[Corridor]
TYR: Why
am I not even slightly surprised he would turn down the opportunity to
lead an empire?
BEKA: Commonwealth.
TYR: Semantics. I just hope all this peace, unity, and fat of the land
doesn't render us complacent.
[Machine
shop]
(The
ceiling starts falling in.)
ANDROMEDA [OC]: Critical systems failure in machine shop seventeen.
[Corridor]
ANDROMEDA
[OC]: Code orange in machine shop seventeen.
BEKA: Complacent. Right.
[Machine
shop]
ANDROMEDA
[OC]: Critical systems failure in machine shop seventeen.
HARPER: Thanks, I'm aware of that. How about critical systems repaired
in machine shop seventeen, huh?
(Harper is hanging on to his construct when Tyr enters and pulls him
away, before the rest of the ceiling lands on him.)
BEKA: Andromeda, cut all power to machine shop seventeen.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: Acknowledged.
[Observation
deck]
PREVOR:
Captain Hunt, you're still my choice for first Triumvir.
HUNT: Well, thank you, Madame Prevor, but I will best serve the
Commonwealth at the helm of my ship. I'm more of a soldier than I am a
politician.
PREVOR: Then what sort of person would you endorse, Captain?
HUNT: Oh, I don't know. Maybe someone who single handedly, as Prime
Minister, gave Ne'holland a bill of civil rights? That sort of person?
[Machine
shop]
(Fire
extinguishers are being used.)
HARPER: Don't anybody look at Rosie. It's not her fault. It's
definitely something else.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: I've located two more ruptures in the power transfer
line.
[Observation
deck]
MAN:
Let's discuss this in private.
(As he tows a woman away by her cleavage.)
HUNT: After you.
PREVOR: As your friend, I give you fair warning. Without you as first
Triumvir, many member worlds are scared to commit their fleets and
planets to Commonwealth control. Some delegates are even looking for an
excuse not to ratify the Charter. An excuse to get out.
HUNT: Then it will be my job not to give them that excuse.
ROMMIE: Excuse me, Madame Prevor. Captain Hunt, may I have a word?
HUNT: Why, yes. I'll just be a moment. Rommie.
(They move away from the delegates.)
HUNT: What's up?
ROMMIE: Smile.
HUNT: Excuse me?
ROMMIE: Smile.
HUNT: Oh, okay, okay. I am smiling.
ROMMIE: We have a problem.
HUNT: What did Harper do?
ROMMIE: Well
MAN [OC]: Congratulations, Captain Hunt.
HUNT: Hi.
ROMMIE: Although it did originate in Harper's machine shop, I've traced
it to the AI core, and now it's spreading to my mainframe functions.
HUNT: Oh, how are you? Rommie, you picked a bad day to break down.
ROMMIE: It's not me. It's sabotage.
[Corridor]
HUNT:
How bad is it?
BEKA: Harper and Rommie are running a diagnostic and repair on the AI
core, but it's anyone's guess when they'll strike again.
HUNT: I intentionally took us into an uninhabited system to safeguard
against external threats.
BEKA: At least that narrows your suspects. It's either your trusty
crew, or
TYR: Fifty politicians. Imagine.
HUNT: Time to learn even more about our guests.
BEKA: We should search their quarters.
HUNT: Do it. And if they object, do it anyway.
[Command]
TRANCE:
Stop.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Nietzschean delegate number four. A senator
from the Mandel system.
TRANCE: What kind of life does a Nietzschean mother expect for her son
when she names him Genghis Stalin?
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: He's said to be a delightful
conversationalist.
TRANCE: Stop.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Zhukov Pashtun, senator from the Sabra
homeworld. Military intelligence, former secretary of the Sabra
politburo.
TRANCE: Family ties and financial support?
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Processing deep intelligence. No wives or
children, estranged from parents, finances unknown.
TRANCE; Keep going.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: He matches the profile. Are you sure?
TRANCE: No, I'm not sure. Next.
[Observation
deck]
ZHUKOV:
I'm sure you'll agree a mutual defence pact would be greatly beneficial
to both parties
(A Perseid is talking at Rommie.)
CERNAN: And then I followed your exploits as you spirited refugees
across the Magog quarantine zone after the fall of Brandenburg Tor.
ROMMIE: Oh, thank you very much, First Consul Cernan, for your interest
in my career.
CERNAN: Oh, your storied career. I teach a class called Operational
History of the High Guard at the Sinti Strategic Studies Institute. You
are the Commonwealth's greatest asset.
(Hunt is still with Madame Prevor. Beka and Tyr see a man climb a
ladder to a higher deck.)
[Command]
TRANCE:
Stop.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: His name is James Severin. But he's not
Nietzschean, he's human.
TRANCE: Deeper background.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Credit reports and medical records.
TRANCE: What about that hospital stay? Renewal of Mercy Hospital?
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Repaired a shattered ulna.
TRANCE: Huh.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Accessing previous x-ray.
TRANCE: He's had his bone blades removed so he could pass as a human.
[Conduit]
TYR:
Hey. Shall I shoot you while you're squatting there, or would you like
to stand up first?
(Severin presses a button on his remote and one of the internal lasers
fires at Tyr and Beka.)
[Observation
deck]
ROMMIE:
My internal defences just activated.
HUNT: That rules out the Admiral. Get Harper.
ROMMIE: Mmm hmm.
HUNT: Glad you could make it.
ZHUKOV: Thank you.
[Corridor]
HARPER:
Damn it, boss. I'm an engineer, not a baby sitter. How come I have to
baby sit the peanut gallery? Come on, you know I'm diplomacy
challenged. I make fish angry.
HUNT: Do whatever you have to do, but nobody leaves that room.
HARPER: What the hell am I supposed to do with a bunch of four eyed
freaks?
(He turns around to see a small alien right behind him.)
HARPER: Er, sorry, sir. Er, three eyed freaks. No, here, right this
way. I have a show to do for you. Huh? Do you like magic?
[Corridor]
(Tyr and
Beka run, chased by laser fire.)
BEKA: Desk job, orbital bus driver, prison guard.
TYR: What are you doing?
BEKA: Reviewing all of the jobs I could be doing other than putting my
ass on the line every day.
TYR: Yet here you are.
[Observation
deck]
(Harper
shuffles a pack of cards in front of Cernan.)
HARPER: Ah, no peeking. Okay. All right, madam. Is your card Omega of
Stars?
CERNAN: No.
HARPER: Er, how about you, Ambassador Orgo? Now, take a close look with
your keen vision.
(That's the little three-eyed one.)
CERNAN: Do you have it? Do you have it?
HARPER: Anybody? Did anybody pick the Omega of Stars?
CERNAN: Anybody?
HARPER: Come on, one of you politicos must have the Omega of Stars.
CERNAN: Who has the Omega of Stars? Anyone?
HARPER: Huh, liars. Well, for my next trick. Ambassador Orgo, I'll need
your assistance.
CERNAN: Bravo, bravo.
HARPER: Whoa, watch your step. Hey. Just kidding. Sorry, sir. Now,
let's hear it for Ambassador Orgo.
[Corridor]
ANDROMEDA
[OC]: Internal defences deactivated.
(A sound of heavy breathing from somewhere as Severin walks along.
Something like the alien from Alien is following him, but it is almost
invisible. He meets Beka and Tyr, then Hunt cuts off his retreat.)
HUNT: Tyr, don't shoot. The Drago-Kazov sent you to sabotage my ship. I
want to know their plans. I want to know who's giving you orders. Start
talking right now. Look, you can talk to me, or talk to him. The choice
is yours.
(The near-invisible alien grabs Severin's leg, drags him along the
corridor then leaps through the ceiling. Severin's spectacles fall to
the floor.)
HUNT: What the?
BEKA: What the hell was that?
TYR: It wasn't the Drago Kazov.
HUNT: Whatever it was, I don't think we're going to like it. Walking
through walls. We've seen this trick before.
BEKA: Or not seen it. Sorry.
HOLO-ROMMIE: This is different. This time, I can't even pick up zero
point emissions.
BEKA: Well, the arm that pulled Severin through the wall seemed pretty
visible.
HOLO-ROMMIE: That's the problem. I couldn't detect it until I saw it,
and I still can't tell you if the intruder is on board or not.
TYR: Was it protecting Severin from us, or us from Severin?
BEKA: Let's just assume the worst, okay? It's bad, and we can't see it.
HUNT: Maybe we don't have to see it. How much do you weigh?
HOLO-ROMMIE: Excuse me?
HUNT: The ship. How much does it weigh?
HOLO-ROMMIE: Ah. Because the intruder's mass will distort my mass.
That's how we can detect it.
HUNT: Right you are.
HOLO-ROMMIE: I'll monitor any gravitational hiccups in my AG field.
Activating shipwide mass sensors. My power is being diverted and
concentrated onto the Obs deck.
[Observation
deck]
HARPER:
Now, anybody can pull a rabbit out of an empty hat, huh? But how about
a rabbit's foot?
CERNAN: Bravo!
HARPER: Thank you. Thank you.
(A bright light shines.)
HARPER: Or even better than a rabbit's foot, how about a gerbil?
CERNAN: Oh, my.
HARPER: Lester? Here, gerbil, gerbil, gerbil, gerbil, gerbil. Ta dah!
We made him disappear.
CERNAN: Bravo!
HARPER: Thank you. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Take a bow,
Ambassador.
CERNAN: Bravo, bravo!
HARPER: Now, let's see what else we can make disappear. What do you
think, Ambassador?
(The Alien grabs Orgo and takes him through the bulkhead.)
CERNAN: Oh! Bravo.
[Corridor]
ANDROMEDA
[OC]: I'm flooding the Obs deck with sensor energy. I can't stop it.
BEKA: It'll microwave everyone to death.
HUNT: Harper, get them out of there!
ANDROMEDA [OC]: He can't hear you.
[Observation
deck]
ZHUKOV:
What's wrong with your ship? We're being irradiated!
HARPER: No, no, no. Fear not. It's all part of the magic. Remember,
Admiral. Right this way, please. Remember, magic is not logical. Magic
is magical. It's all part of the illusion.
ZHUKOV: Why are your doors sealed?
HARPER: Er, they're not. It's the old sticky doors trapped in a room
gag. It's designed to create the illusion of mass hysteria. Good job,
people. Now, give me a moment, and watch as I try to get them open.
(Tyr cuts through from the other side.)
HARPER: Ta dah!
TYR: Follow us.
HARPER: All right, let's go. All right, come on.
[Corridor]
CERNAN:
Just hold on, my dear. Everything will be fine.
HARPER: Glad that's over. I guess the cat's out of the bag, huh?
BEKA: You think?
(The Observation deck explodes.)
TYR: Dylan wants them in the slipstream control centre.
HARPER: The slipstream control centre?
BEKA: For their protection.
ZHUKOV: You'd put us in your slipstream core to protect us? So what's
next, the nuclear reactor to save our lives?
TYR: It contains three layers of bulkheads, and truly, sir, it is safer
than where you are standing right now.
CERNAN: Friends, friends. Let's not panic or bicker with each other.
Surely, we can stay together and follow instructions, hmm? Let's all
act like adults here.
HARPER: Yeah, come on. Let's go, people. Hold hands with your buddy.
Come on, hold hands with your buddy. Move it along. Move it along.
CERNAN: Come along. No need to worry.
TYR: Admiral, please.
HARPER: Keep going, single file. Gold stars for everybody. Show's over
for tonight. Thank you. You're doing great. Don't worry, the Captain's
got everything under control. He's got everything under control, right?
BEKA: That's right.
HARPER: Keep up. No lagging behind. You, in the back. Nietzscheans too.
Come on.
HUNT: I'm guessing he'll choose a high visibility target, probably
Zhukov.
HOLO-ROMMIE: That's one nomination Zhukov doesn't want.
HUNT: I don't like the idea of using live bait, but it's the only way.
HOLO-ROMMIE: Dylan, I think it's here.
ZHUKOV: We're being paraded like cattle to a sausage shop. I won't go
further.
TYR: Stay here. We'll be in slipstream control.
ZHUKOV: You're as scared as the little one.
TYR: Absolutely. Or doesn't that make sense?
PREVOR: Gentlemen, gentlemen.
(The alien grabs her, but she resists.)
MAN [OC]: Look out!
BEKA: This way, this way.
(Hunt comes to Prevor's aid, and frees her. The alien throws him to the
floor. then Tyr.)
BEKA: Move, move!
(They shoot at the alien's head and it disappears back into the
bulkhead.)
HUNT: It's very strong. Madame Prevor. Madame Prevor, are you all
right?
PREVOR: Yes, yes. Yes, I am.
CERNAN: What is that thing?
HUNT: We don't know.
ZHUKOV: You don't know? Then I say we get to our transports, call our
ships, and go home.
HUNT: No, that's exactly what they want, to break us apart.
CERNAN: Captain Hunt is right. There's strength in the Commonwealth,
and no place safer than on the Andromeda
(The alien appears, cuts her in half and runs off again.)
ZHUKOV: So, where's your protection now, Captain?
BEKA: She was standing right next to me, and I couldn't do anything to
protect her.
TYR: Don't reproach yourself. There are still forty seven politicians
left.
ZHUKOV: So it's only subtraction to you, is it? Those dead delegates.
Tell that to their families. Who'll write that letter? You, Captain
Hunt?
HUNT: Call your fleets. We'll ratify the Charter another day. Tyr.
[Another
corridor]
ROMMIE:
We catch Severin. It kills him so he won't talk. But since it's
obviously not Drago-Kazov, what does it want?
HUNT: The Commonwealth has more than one enemy.
ROMMIE: Then why doesn't it just destroy me? It would seem to have the
ability.
HUNT: Then there's no one left to tell the tale. The best way to kill a
dream is to discredit the dream.
ROMMIE: And me. If the Commonwealth's most powerful asset can't protect
a few delegates, then what good is the Commonwealth?
HUNT: We'll just have to show them how good it is.
[Command]
TRANCE:
You cannot let the delegates leave this ship.
HUNT: Why not?
TRANCE: Remember how I told you I came back from a bad future?
HUNT: Yes. You said you had mistakes to fix.
TRANCE: This is the mistake I came back to fix.
HUNT: Explain.
TRANCE: In that future, we also held a Charter convention on the
Andromeda, only somebody sabotaged it and we never figured out who.
HUNT: We still don't know who.
TRANCE: True. But the delegates left for their respective homeworlds,
and that was followed by a huge alien attack.
HUNT: Then keeping them on board this ship is going to stop that
attack?
TRANCE: I don't know, but I do know that this is the moment when things
could go terribly wrong.
HUNT: Trance, right now I have about a million questions.
TRANCE: I will answer what I can. But first, you have to stop those
delegates.
ROMMIE: If the intruder can bypass my defences at will, it can do the
same to the delegates transports.
HUNT: Andromeda, seal all hangar doors. Don't let one delegate off this
ship.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: Order acknowledged.
HUNT: Rommie, you're with me.
[Corridor]
PREVOR:
Captain, I appreciate your escort, but it's quite unnecessary.
HUNT: I'm afraid it isn't. Clearly your name's number one on the hit
list.
PREVOR: Then perhaps it might be better for all of us if I walked
alone.
HUNT: Not on my ship. Here, we walk together.
[Command]
(Trance
is creating the image of a ship on a screen.)
TRANCE: That is what they looked like right before they attacked us.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: I've never seen ships like that.
TRANCE: I saw them. Millions of them, popping up from everywhere right
in front of us, and then just disappearing.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: The amount of energy required for dimension
shifting ships of that number doesn't exist in a galaxy. It's a
scientific impossibility.
TRANCE: That is also what we thought.
[Corridor]
(The
alien succeeds in grabbing Madame Prevor.)
HUNT: No! Damn it, Rommie. What are these things?
(The alien appears, solidifies and attacks Hunt. It knocks him out then
turns on Rommie. They are a match. Hunt wakes and shoots it in
mid-leap, but then a second one appears.)
HUNT: Rommie.
(Hunt throws her his forcelance and she shoots it. A third alien crawls
down the wall. A fourth attacks Hunt from behind. She shoots number
three while Hunt uses his forcelance as a quarterstaff until he knocks
his alien down and can shoot it point-blank. Beka and Tyr run in.)
TYR: I can't imagine so formidable a species would need Severin, a
Nietzschean, to do their legwork for them.
HUNT: Agreed. Severin never worked for these creatures. He was with the
Drago-Kazov. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, much
like we are.
ROMMIE: I don't think they're here to stop the Commonwealth.
HUNT: These creatures don't give a damn about the Commonwealth.
BEKA: So what the hell are they, and what are they doing here?
ROMMIE: A ship just materialised in front of us.
(Alarm sounds.)
ROMMIE: And it's firing.
(They run out and an alien jumps in.)
[Command]
TRANCE:
That's it. That's the ship.
HUNT: Battle stations. Tyr, fire.
(The ship vanishes just before the weapons can hit it.)
TYR: It disappeared.
ROMMIE: My sensors can't find it anywhere.
HUNT: That's impossible.
ROMMIE: The ship's reappeared, starboard three zero.
HUNT: Tyr, return fire. Trance, tell me how we fought these guys.
TRANCE: I don't know everything, but I do know that we couldn't fight
them. They won.
HUNT: Then tell me how they won. Maybe that will make the difference.
TRANCE: Dylan, nothing is going to make a difference now. We've come
too far into that bad future. The Andromeda will be incinerated, and
you will all die.
BEKA: We should head back to Sinti and regroup till we figure out what
they want.
ROMMIE: The enemy ship has reappeared. Starboard eighty two degrees.
TYR: Switching fire control to target two. We're wasting our fire.
HUNT: Let's make them waste theirs. Defensive missiles. There, now we
got your number.
ROMMIE: I'm detecting a second ship. Two ships, above and below.
HUNT: Launch sensor drones. Track their visible movements. Beka,
zigzag.
BEKA: Got to love the crazy Ivan.
ROMMIE: Captain, I'm detecting multiple slipstream events. More ships,
four light minutes out. Looks like they're from the member worlds.
BEKA: That works.
HUNT: Like I said, people, unity is a great thing. Tell them to join
the fight.
ROMMIE: Dylan, they're not responding. And they're not attacking.
[Slipstream
core]
(Zhukov
is receiving a message.)
ZHUKOV: Excellent, Captain. I'll be right there.
CAPTAIN [OC]: Acknowledged, Admiral.
HARPER: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. No one's going anywhere.
Captain's orders. You understand.
ZHUKOV: Get out of my way, little man. My fleet is here to take me
home.
(Boom!)
HARPER: Go ahead. Don't mind if we just stand here and listen to your
ship go boom in the firefight.
ZHUKOV: Let me introduce myself. I'm not only the Senator from Sabra,
I'm also an Admiral, and a pretty good pilot. So, who's coming with me?
(Several of the delegates step forward.)
HARPER: All right, wait a minute. Let me reintroduce myself. I'm Seamus
Harper, and this is my line in the sand. If you're not with me, you're
against me.
(Zhukov steps across Harper's line.)
HARPER: All right, all right. You know what? Go ahead. Get the hell out
of here. Because if you don't, I'll put a bullet in your head. Either
way, you die, Admiral.
ZHUKOV: You talk right. I believe this crew will fight for survival.
Now, prove to me you can defeat these ships.
[Command]
HARPER
[OC]: That's his challenge. Prove it, and you've got a fighting fleet.
HUNT: Terrific. Now it's an audition.
ROMMIE: We're getting a data dump on the alien ship movements.
HUNT: Good. I want to know where to lay down fire.
ROMMIE: Inconclusive. Their movements are too random for me to
reasonably predict their positions for targeting.
BEKA: So it's still a crapshoot.
HUNT: Maybe I can improve those odds. Trance, replace Tyr on fire
control.
TRANCE: I don't want to make any more mistakes.
HUNT: You have already faced them. That's an advantage.
TRANCE: Dylan, I told you I know enough to know that we are in trouble,
but I don't know enough to know how to get us out of it.
HUNT: You told me once that we shape our future with our intentions.
Well, I intend to survive no matter what. I know you can do this. Do
it.
TRANCE: Missiles aft, er, thirty degrees. Fire.
(Near miss.)
TRANCE: Starboard twenty two degrees. Fire.
(Direct hits.)
TRANCE: Yeah! That's it, baby! Scared money walks, sweet sugar action
talks. I heard that one in a casino once. Firing.
(The alien ship goes KaBOOM.)
TRANCE: Yes!
HUNT: Rommie, tell Mister Harper we just passed the audition.
ROMMIE: Aye.
[Slipstream
core]
HARPER:
The Commonwealth Charter, for your ratification, sir.
(Harper holds the document against his shoulder while Zhukov signs with
his thumbprint.)
ZHUKOV: Tell your Captain I'm on my way.
HARPER: Ow. Nietzscheans.
(To a passing lady.)
HARPER: Call me.
[Command]
(A
second alien ship appears and gets blown away.)
HUNT: All right, Trance. Give me some more of that sweet sugar action
thing.
TRANCE: Aye.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Enemy ships multiple vectors heading for us,
and disappearing.
(The Andromeda gets pounded.)
TRANCE: What should I do?
HUNT: What you've been doing, only times thirty. Beka, get us out of
here.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: The Commonwealth fleet is engaging the enemy ships.
(Including the Wrath of Achilles.)
BEKA: What do you know? It's the cavalry.
ROMMIE: We're being hailed. Fleet Admiral Zhukov.
HUNT: Put him through. Admiral.
ZHUKOV [on viewscreen]: So, how do we whip these bogeys, Hunt?
HUNT: There's only one way to fight a superior opponent.
ZHUKOV [on viewscreen]: Well, that I wouldn't know. I've never fought a
superior opponent.
HUNT: Asymmetric warfare. It's an area denial strategy.
BEKA: You're going to carpet bomb space?
ZHUKOV [on viewscreen]: I like it. They can only pop up in the areas we
choose, like that Old Earth game of Whack-a-Mole.
HUNT: Right. Er, let the games begin. Fire. A lot.
(Another alien ship goes KaBOOM.)
HUNT: I think we just created a new future.
ROMMIE: Twelve more alien ships just appeared. Now another six. They're
firing.
TYR: Where are they coming from?
HUNT: Rommie, we need answers.
ROMMIE: Another ten ships.
HUNT: Not numbers, answers.
ROMMIE: They're firing.
TRANCE: This is just what happened before. They just appeared, and they
overwhelmed us.
HUNT: Come on, people. A hundred ships just don't appear out of thin
air. It's not possible. Unless. Maybe we can find them the way we found
our intruders. Rommie?
ROMMIE: I'm detecting a massive gravity well ten light minutes out.
Mapping it.
BEKA: Looks like we're on the wrong side of a drain.
ROMMIE: Based on mass, it appears to be a dimensional tunnel from
another universe.
TRANCE: That's it. That's how they overran us. We never saw it.
HUNT: But we see it now. Another universe It's unbelievable.
TYR: A sort of pocket universe, perhaps, cut off from our own.
BEKA: And eager to wreak havoc.
HUNT: Rommie, how is this possible?
ROMMIE: Best guess? Maybe there's a massive generator in that universe
that can power their ships and allow them to dimension shift.
HARPER [OC]: The only way they can keep that baby open for business is
if they
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Harnessed the energy from all the suns in a galaxy.
[Command]
HARPER
[OC]: And speaking as an experienced genius, people, that is some
pretty advanced
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Technology. I'm thinking it would take them more than ten thousand
years
[Command]
HARPER
[OC]: To accumulate that kind of power.
HUNT: Yes, well, that's interesting, because it's going to take us less
than one day to destroy it.
BEKA: How?
HUNT: Mister Harper, how's Roseanne feeling?
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Well, bossanova.
[Command]
HARPER
[OC]: Although Rosie'd been saving herself for a nice big
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Magog Worldship lunch, I'd say a universe crunching dimensional
[Command]
HARPER
[OC]: Time tunnel pretty much qualifies as a break glass in emergency
kind of emergency. So, in short, Rosie's ready to rumba.
HUNT: Right, I'm on my way. Andromeda, disengage.
BEKA: I bet Roseanne needs a Maru-sized limo to take her to the dance.
TRANCE: Beka, no. Dylan is going to pilot.
BEKA: Why shouldn't I pilot my own ship?
TRANCE: Why shouldn't you pilot your own ship? Because you did last
time, and it didn't work out.
BEKA: Trance, when you. When the new you showed up, a future me
tesseracted back in time with you. Don't pretend like you don't know
what I'm talking about. Cybernetic eye patch, facial scars, robotic
hand.
TRANCE: That's right. You and I survived because of a mistake. A
mistake that we made.
BEKA: We survived. Where's the mistake?
TRANCE: That is the mistake. Only we survived.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Dylan, meet Roseanne. Roseanne, Dylan. Let's just say you don't want
her to fall on you, because, man, she is heavy. Maybe that's not so
polite. Sorry, Rosie. Let's just call her pretty plus.
HUNT: Can she blow up that tunnel?
HARPER: Are you kidding? Rosie may look sweet, but she's got a temper
meaner than three nova bombs cubed, and an angry Vedran after he
catches me with his daughter.
HUNT: I never authorised you to build anything that powerful.
HARPER: So I added a daughter.
HUNT: Tell me how this thing works.
HARPER: All right. Timing is everything. Fly low and slow, drop it down
the centre, then get far away as you can, fast, because when Rosie
blows, the universe knows.
HUNT: I understand the risks.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA: I
don't think you do. In Trance's future, you didn't know about the
dimensional tunnel, but you did get the idea to use Harper's Roseanne
to blow up a star.
HUNT: Well, sure. I mean, that way we would incinerate all the ships in
the system. After we slipstream out first, of course. Huh. I was a
pretty smart guy in Trance's future.
BEKA: Yeah. Well, I volunteered to take the bomb in the Maru.
HUNT: And I sent Trance with you?
BEKA: Dylan, they ambushed the Maru. I dropped the bomb too soon,
before you could slip out of the system. I killed you, and the
Commonwealth.
HUNT: Then I should go. Put us in a different future, maybe a better
one.
BEKA: It already is a better one, because now I know what I can do to
make it better. For you, for the rest of the crew, for the universe.
How many people can say that?
HUNT: I can.
BEKA: You won't be disappointed.
HUNT: I know.
TYR: You know? That's good.
HUNT: Tyr, what are you doing here? I need you on fire control.
TYR: Trance has been acquitting herself quite nicely. I believe I'm
going to be of better service protecting Beka from any dimension
shifting intruders.
ANDROMEDA [on screen]: Dylan, enemy ships incoming. Report to Command.
HUNT: On my way. Well, go. And good luck.
(Tyr has brought his honking big gun along.)
[Command]
HUNT:
Rommie, status.
ROMMIE: They're engaging Zhukov's fleet at three light minutes out.
HUNT: Let's join the battle.
TRANCE: Hurry, Beka.
[Eureka
Maru]
(The
Maru launches.)
BEKA: Tyr, why'd you really come with me?
TYR: Fly the ship, Beka. You and I have overcome greater odds and
emerged stronger. We will again.
[Command]
ROMMIE:
The aliens outnumber Zhukov's fleet ten to one, but he's holding his
own.
HUNT: Way to go, Admiral. Andromeda, let's reinforce their flank.
(More ships go KaBOOM on both sides.)
ROMMIE: I'm detecting ten thousand enemy ships emerging from the
tunnel.
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
It's beautiful.
TYR: Remember my admonition about becoming complacent? About forgetting
what it means to test our will against the universe? Well, we have two.
BEKA: Yeah, but we're going to win this time.
(An alien gets on board.)
BEKA: Coming in low and slow. Preparing to launch Roseanne. Ready in
ten, nine, eight, Seven.
(The alien attacks Tyr.)
BEKA: Tyr! Five, four, three, two, one!
(Roseanne flies into the middle of the tunnel and explodes. Fireballs
rip through the Maru.)
BEKA: Tyr!
[Command]
(A
brilliant white light fills the viewscreen.)
HUNT: Rommie, get us out of this gravity wave! Zhukov, get your fleet
out of here!
(Space explodes into a fireball.)
ROMMIE: We're clear.
TRANCE: Beka did it!
HUNT: Rommie, find the Maru.
ROMMIE: Scanning.
HARPER [OC]: Guys, when Beka and Tyr
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Destroyed the tunnel, they also took out the alien's generator. Every
alien ship in the freakin system
[Command]
HARPER
[OC]: Just dimension shifted into sayonara, senorita.
HUNT: Rommie, the Maru
ROMMIE: I found it. It's on its way back to the ship. On autopilot.
(Hunt runs out.)
[Eureka
Maru]
(The
Maru lands, fires breaking out along her hull.)
HUNT: Beka? Tyr? Beka? Tyr?
(There is a big hole in the hull.)
