The fearful sit
in a clutch with their worries,
Whilst one man alone
faces the Furies.

[Eureka
Maru]
(We
carry on from where we left of in Tunnel.)
HUNT: Tyr? Beka?
(The Maru is a wreck with no apparent signs of life.)
HUNT: Damn it.
[Command]
HUNT:
Rommie, report.
ROMMIE: Sensors report nothing.
HUNT: They have to be in the tunnel.
ROMMIE: Rechecking. Infra-red, action sensitive, hot, cold, nothing.
HUNT: Not after two years. Not after all our hard work. We have to do
something, anything to find them.
TRANCE: They're in the tunnel.
HUNT: Harper, let's go. I don't know how much time we have.
(Harper runs in carrying a device with a large round piece of glass in
it.)
HARPER: Okay, okay, I'm hurrying. Dylan, don't you think we're kind of
leaping before we look here?
HUNT: Rommie, show me the visual flight log of the last five minutes on
the Maru.
(A stream of binary on the viewscreen.)
HUNT: That doesn't do me a lot of good. Harper, let's do it.
HARPER: All right. The galactic jaws of life.
(He fits his device to the end of Trance's console.)
HARPER: With a little luck we'll be sharing pudding with our pals in a
matter of moments, talking old times and daring rescues.
ROMMIE: How will it work?
HARPER: Basically it will drill into the energy of that tunnel. There
could be a hell inside. I don't know, there could be a sun.
TRANCE: Suns are tricky.
HARPER: Listen. My instincts are telling me this could be the last
thing any of us ever do. But hey, if it works, this puppy cranks that
tunnel open and if not, well, then we had our fun, huh?
HUNT: Let's go get them.
HARPER: Grab your socks and hold your mud, folks.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: The dimensional tunnel is opening.
(So it does, and the Andromeda flies in. Alarms start sounding. A
mini-wormhole grabs the spaceship, and everyone gets sucked to the
floor.)
HUNT: Artificial gravity. Rommie, reconfigure the AG field.
ROMMIE: The generators above and below are running at a marked loss of
capacity. Something is sucking out my power.
HUNT: Hold it there as long as you can.
ROMMIE: My hull is beginning to disintegrate and collapse. I'm going to
implode.
HUNT: Harper, shut it off.
HARPER: Okay.
(But Harper can barely move in the increased gravity. Hunt rolls onto
his back and raises his forcelance with difficulty, then shoots
Harper's device. Normal gravity is resumed.)
HUNT: Oh yeah, that was fun. Thank god for heavy grav.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: The tunnel is closing.
TRANCE: Tyr. Beka. They're gone. Forever.
(A short time later.)
ROMMIE: Visual flight log of the last five minutes of the Maru loaded
and ready.
HARPER: The database is completely corrupted. Looks like the planet
Vergion from fifty kilometres up.
TRANCE: What are we supposed to be looking for?
HUNT: Keep it running.
BEKA [on viewscreen]: Ready in five, four, three, two, one. Argh!
(Tyr appears to be fighting an invisible attacker.)
BEKA [on viewscreen]: Coming in low and slow. Argh!
(There are brief flashes of a little kitten between shots of Beka
vanishing and Tyr fighting his unseen foe and then vanishing and
reappearing.)
BEKA [on viewscreen]: Help, Tyr.
(A deep voices says something unintelligible in the background. Then
there are set images of the whole Andromeda crew happy and smiling
before the final flashes, and Tyr and Beka vanish for the last time.
Return to binary.)
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Dylan I'm reading the continued presence of
the dimensional tunnel.
HARPER: Looks like some kind of colossus, just waiting for us to try
something else.
TRANCE: It's an invitation. Whatever it is it, wants to play, to fight,
or make love with us.
HUNT: RSVP.
(Hunt launches the Maru. The conversation is done on split screens with
a replay of Beka and Tyr's final moments.)
ROMMIE: A re-creation, Dylan. Are you sure?
HUNT: Look, if I go through what they went through, go where they went.
ROMMIE: All right, you are directly in front of where my sensors pick
up the residue of the dimensional tunnel. What now?
[Eureka
Maru]
HUNT: I
don't know. I guess I'm waiting for it to open, hoping against hope.
[Command]
HUNT
[OC]: Maybe the tunnel is right here in front of me, and it's wide open
and I just can't see it.
[Eureka
Maru]
HUNT:
It's like Beka and Tyr disappearing and appearing.
[Command]
ROMMIE:
Well, perhaps things are not what they seem to be.
[Eureka
Maru]
HUNT: We
are right where we're supposed to be. Come on, you guys. Where are you?
(He leaves the cockpit and walks around, shouting.)
HUNT: Tyr! Beka!
(Split screen again.)
ROMMIE: Dylan, come back.
HUNT: We can't give up Rommie.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Collision alert. Repeat, collision alert.
(Hunt returns to the cockpit.)
[Command]
ROMMIE:
Dylan, a wave of residue, space detritus is headed directly toward the
Maru.
ROMMIE: Check that. It's heading toward where the dimensional tunnel
used to be and the Maru is in its way. Get out of there or you'll get
sucked in with it.
(The Andromeda fires at the large lumps of stuff while the Maru flies
back.)
ROMMIE: Dylan? Dylan where are you?
[Eureka
Maru]
HUNT:
I'm on my way.
(The Maru docks. Andromeda continues to destroy pieces of debris.)
[Command]
ANDROMEDA
[OC]: Dylan, the tunnel has reopened.
ROMMIE: I've been in a decaying exit route. Now I'm heading back toward
the tunnel.
HUNT: We're being pulled in.
ROMMIE: We don't have enough power. I can't fight it.
(Tyr and Beka enter, calmly.)
TYR: That tunnel's got a lot of torque. Shooting things at the debris
will only make it worse.
BEKA: Let's get out of here.
(Harper hugs Tyr.)
HUNT: Beka?
TYR: Why keep treading on thin ice? Do we have an opportunity to escape
here or what?
ANDROMEDA [OC]: All hands present and accounted for.
HUNT: Let's get on it.
ROMMIE: They seem okay. No baggage, literally or figuratively.
HUNT: No stranger then usual then.
ROMMIE: We are fully operational, Captain.
HUNT: Except for er.
(Hunt indicates his forearm.)
ROMMIE: Hmm mmm.
(Big jolt. Alarms.)
ROMMIE: I'm losing power.
HUNT: Switch to reserve.
ROMMIE: Aye.
HUNT: Okay, when the tunnel pulses we hold our own. Between its pulses,
we push forward. Got enough power if we shut everything else down and
stay patient. Anything we can do manually we will do manually.
HARPER: Huh, sounds like dating a cyborg.
HUNT: Trim us down, Rommie.
ROMMIE: Aye.
HARPER: Ah, see? Exactly like dating a cyborg.
ROMMIE: Air vents reduced to a minimum.
TYR: It's going to get hot.
BEKA: We're making a little progress here. It's going to take a while,
but it's going to work.
HARPER: Someday you two are going to have to tell me how you did that
whole disappearing act. I got a lot of people looking for me. It could
come in handy.
BEKA: Scared?
TRANCE: Yeah.
BEKA: If and when we get out of this, I'm thinking that from now on I
just want to fly. No danger, no mission, just fly for the love of
flying, like we used to. I miss that feeling. The old times, the good
times, you know?
(Beka fondles Trance's hair.)
TRANCE: Yeah, they were great.
HARPER: It's like the ship is on a respirator.
HUNT: Pretty close. Rommie, how are we doing?
ROMMIE: Time and patience. Two things I have relative opinions on.
HUNT: We're getting out, metre by metre.
(He goes over to Tyr.)
HUNT: Welcome back.
TYR: Thank you.
HUNT: Where were you?
TYR: I er, I really can't say.
HUNT: Well, I've got to figure this out so I could use your help.
TYR: I don't know! Now tell me what you would like me to do here.
HUNT: I'd like you to keep on doing what you've been doing. But if you
do remember, you'll let me know.
ROMMIE: We're making progress. We're going to get out.
HUNT: Excellent.
BEKA: So we have more power and the tunnel has less?
ROMMIE: Yes.
BEKA: Let's just get the hell out of here.
TYR: She's right. Let's get out of here.
HUNT: Why don't you just take it easy?
BEKA: I say we go for it, now.
(Beka punches up the slipstream console.)
HUNT: What do you think you're doing? Beka, are you insane? Beka!
ROMMIE: Dylan, we're falling back, heading toward the tunnel at maximum
velocity.
HARPER: We don't have the power to survive.
HUNT: Beka, get out of there. Move it!
BEKA: I can make it.
HUNT: I think you've done enough.
(Hunt powers it down.)
HUNT: Rommie, compute the sharpest angle possible to hit the tunnel
without incinerating ourselves.
ROMMIE: Calculating and counting down in five, four, three, two, one.
(The Andromeda turns and flies out.)
ROMMIE: We're clear.
(Beka goes to leaves, and Tyr slowly follows her.)
HARPER: Nice move, boss. The old sling shot manoeuvre, plus a little
luck.
HUNT: You know, sometimes I think luck's just another word for fate.
HARPER: Yeah? Well, I'm feeling particularly fatalistic right now.
HUNT: Welcome to the club. Why is it we look for luck every time we're
in danger.
HARPER: Because that when we need it most.
HUNT: Yeah, but the thing about luck is, it always changes.
TRANCE: What about fate?
HUNT: Fate is a hunter.
[Hunt's
quarters]
(Beka
enters, carrying a furry bundle.)
BEKA: Hi.
HUNT: Hey. What is that?
BEKA: A kitten.
HUNT: Well, where did you find it?
BEKA: In my quarters. I thought maybe you'd left him for me.
HUNT: No. It's cute.
BEKA: It's hard to resist.
(She puts the kitten on his desk for him to stroke.)
BEKA: Dylan, I'd like to apologise.
HUNT: Oh please, Beka, there's no need. I know that you've been through
a lot.
BEKA: I guess. And I guess I just kind of lost it.
HUNT: Yeah, it's a little surprising.
BEKA: Let me explain. When I heard Rommie say it was only a matter of
time for us to be out of the tunnel's pull, it was a beautiful thing
and I felt
HUNT: Beka, really. There's no need to explain.
BEKA: I just want it all to stop. I want someone to tell me it's going
to be all right. If we could just
(Beka leans across the desk to within kissing distance.)
HUNT: Beka.
(Bang! Thump! They are thrown onto the floor. Device pop up on two of
the Andromeda's arms and it starts spinning.)
HOLO-ROMMIE: Captain, one of the slipstream rudders has opened up.
HUNT: Override.
HOLO-ROMMIE: I can't. The ship is in maintenance mode as if in dry
dock. The slipstream rudders automatically open for inspection and
repair.
HUNT: Shut down the engine. Beka, let's get out of here. Everyone,
weapons deck eleven.
[Weapons
deck 11]
ROMMIE:
All crew accounted for except Tyr.
HUNT: Where is he? Damn him.
(Hunt goes back to the corridor junction and shouts.)
HUNT: Tyr!
(Gas starts venting from the corridor ceiling.)
HUNT: Tyr!
(He returns to the others.)
HUNT: Rommie, seal the doors.
TRANCE: Why here? Why are we here?
HUNT: Nova bomb weapons locker. It's always sealed and stays that way.
It's the only place we'll be safe from the fumes.
HARPER: Fumes?
ROMMIE: I'm a warship. A quick turnaround in dry dock is essential. As
soon as the rudders open, automatic decontamination starts and my
corridors fill with a deadly gas. If the arms don't close soon the ship
will come apart.
HARPER: How fast?
ROMMIE: One minute thirty seven seconds.
HARPER: Great. So either way we're toast.
HUNT: Harper, find a way to shut off those engines.
(Rommie's internal sensor spot Tyr lurching along a corridor.)
ROMMIE: Found Tyr, moving from the weapons node.
HUNT: What, he's okay?
ROMMIE: Yes.
TRANCE: I thought you couldn't seal off the weapons node?
BEKA: Tyr doesn't need it.
HUNT: What do you mean he doesn't
(Hunt opens the door and runs into the corridor.)
HARPER: Er Dylan, what are you doing?
HUNT: Fake. The disinfectant is fake. Rommie, try to close your rudders
again.
ROMMIE: Searching systems. Finding override.
ANDROMEDA [OC]: Rudders are now closing.
HUNT: Of course they're closing, now that the game is over.
BEKA: I'll go find Tyr.
HUNT: Beka, why don't you just wait
(Beka walks off.)
HUNT: I can't quite piece together what is wrong with her, but I'm
thinking that I'm all booked up on weird today.
[Corridor]
ROMMIE:
Someone was in the intelligence of the ship, knowing my procedures, my
demons, how to circumvent my systems. That's why it took me so long to
override.
HARPER: And more strangeness. Before I was so rudely interrupted by all
this, I uncovered a force, a ray. Some kind of pulsing residue aimed at
the ship coming from where the dimensional was.
HUNT: The closer we get to it, the more powerful its going to be.
[Command]
HUNT:
Rommie, run the playback from the Maru.
ROMMIE: Mmm hmm
HARPER: Digital gobbledygook. What are we looking for?
HUNT: Nothing. We're looking for nothing. Tunnel's still open even
though it looks like its closed. And now this playback? It's all a
mirage.
ROMMIE: Hmm, a digital mirage. Very probable. The images that appear
and disappear on the Maru are simply my artificial intelligence trying
to see what it's trained to see. It's all a distraction.
HUNT: Someone wants us to see this. Stop it right there.
(Tyr fighting his invisible enemy.)
HUNT: We're fighting a mirage. A mirage on the Andromeda. Forces of
evil, the Abyss. Whoever it is on board, make no mistake, we are
fighting them.
[Corridor]
(Harper
with a gun encounters Trance.)
TRANCE: I thought I could give you a hand.
HARPER: You're lucky. Come on. What the hell do you think we're
supposed to be looking for?
TRANCE: Well, Harper, that is the appeal of the unknown. If you know
what you're looking for, you're probably dying.
HARPER: Oh, thanks for the comforting thought. We are now exactly forty
eight decks away from anywhere convenient. You'd think
TRANCE: Scared is good.
HARPER: Scared? Did I say I was scared? I'm not scared. There's a
difference between being scared and being sensible.
TRANCE: Well, that's very Nietzchean of you.
HARPER: (doing a Tyr) It is because I am so uncompromising courageous.
TRANCE: Very good. You miss him, don't you.
HARPER: Miss who? Miss him? No, no, I wouldn't say that. It's er, wait
a minute. What's that.
TRANCE: It's huge. Wait a second, let me try something.
(She makes a shadow puppet with her hands.)
HARPER: Our own shadows.
TRANCE: Like my moves?
HARPER: Yeah, looks a little like a Seraglian Triostian. Look Trance,
even our own shadows can be frightening in their own way if you think
about it, which obviously I chose not to because I was too busy
protecting somebody I used to like.
(Growls off. Trance readies her forcelance.)
HARPER: After you.
(Further along.)
TRANCE: It's watching us.
HARPER: All right, stay calm. No sudden moves. We don't want to er,
excite it.
(Harper shoots at what turn out to be three food dispensers on the wall
of the Mess hall.)
TRANCE: That takes care of the auto-chef.
HARPER: Now she'll never think I'm cool.
[Corridor]
(Tyr
tesseracts into a corridor. Beka does the same from the other
direction.)
TYR: Now?
BEKA: Now. We drive the Andromeda into the tunnel.
(Beka and Tyr kiss passionately.)
[Eureka Maru]
TRANCE:
Beka, where are we going?
BEKA: Dylan asked me to do recon. We'll go out, take a look, and we'll
be right back. Hey, you said you wanted to go flying with me. Let's do
it.
TRANCE: Let's double-check.
BEKA: Let's not. We'll be back in a flash.
(The Maru skims the Andromeda's hull.)
TRANCE: Beka, you are way too close to the Andromeda.
BEKA: Do you think? Look at it this way. I just want to fly. That's
what I was talking about.
TRANCE: What are you trying to do, scare me?
BEKA: Maybe.
[Command]
(Still
studying the playback.)
HUNT: Where do we start, Rommie?
ROMMIE: Finding an invisible enemy?
(Harper enters.)
HUNT: It's hard to get a hold of, isn't it?
HARPER: Hey, Dylan? I ran a massive check of the rays coming from where
the dimensional tunnel was. Checked them against every element in and
around the ship just hoping something might pop up and boom! Those
rays, the energy streams, match up perfectly with Tyr and Beka's
nervous systems.
HUNT: You're kidding. It's like someone's controlling them. Well, that
redefines low-tech.
(Shudder.)
ROMMIE: Navigation and powered. Still hampered and moving slowly.
Prognoses and projections are that we'll be fine.
HUNT: Good. It's time for the three V's. Visualise, verify, and then
get very, very pissed off.
(Tyr tesseracts into the entrance to Command.)
HUNT: Rommie.
TYR: Walk with me.
(Rommie and Tyr leave.)
HUNT: Where's Beka?
HOLO-ROMMIE: On the Maru with Trance.
HUNT: Really? Get them back here, please.
HOLO-ROMMIE: The Maru is not responding to hails.
[Corridor]
ROMMIE:
So where are we going, Tyr? Is this a big surprise?
TYR: Are you trying to read my mind?
ROMMIE: Of course.
TYR: Well, I've got something to show you.
ROMMIE: I've seen everything.
TYR: You'll enjoy this. I'm taking over.
ROMMIE: I'll break your neck.
(Tyr strokes her neck and she slaps his hand away. He puts an energy
hypo to her and she passes out.)
[Auxiliary
control]
(I'm
guessing. I don't know what this room is supposed to be. Tyr plugs
something into Rommie's back.)
HUNT [OC]: Rommie? Rommie where are you?
[Command]
HARPER:
Never an AI around when you need one, huh?
HUNT: Andromeda, where are you?
HOLO-ROMMIE: Dylan, I. (flicker) I'm losing control.
HUNT: Harper, make yourself scarce.
HARPER: What?
HUNT: Go!
(Harper runs.)
[Auxiliary
control]
(Rommie
wakes up.)
TYR: I disabled your legs, and your arms as well. It's all for safe
keeping.
ROMMIE: What are you doing, Tyr?
TYR: Me? What am I? Well, I'm running this ship. I'm in control. Your
artificial intelligence is all mine. And you know? You should have
figured that out when I put the ship in maintenance mode.
ROMMIE: You'll be doomed. You know that.
TYR: Are you trying to frighten me? Forget it. I left my fear in the
dimensional tunnel.
ROMMIE: Is that where we're going?
TYR: Shush. Let's have some fun with Dylan.
(Tyr brings up Command on a wall monitor, and turns off the gravity.
Hunt floats up towards the ceiling)
[Command]
HUNT:
This can't be good.
(Hunt drops to the floor.)
HUNT: Oh! This sucks. Oh no, no.
(He floats back up again. Tyr laughs. Hunt drops again.)
HUNT: Oh, that hurts.
[Auxiliary
control]
TYR: All
right, then. Exeunt one Captain Hunt.
[Command]
TYR [on
viewscreen]: Kill him!
ROMMIE [on viewscreen]: Depressurising command deck.
[Auxiliary
control]
(The
wall monitor switches to a ships schematic. Hunt leaps through the
closing doors unseen by Tyr.)
TYR: Finished?
ROMMIE: Finished.
[Outside
Command]
HUNT:
Oh. Oh. Thank you, Rommie.
[Eureka
Maru]
(The
scene on the Command deck was visible here, too.)
TRANCE: Beka, what are you and Tyr doing?
BEKA: Hold on.
(The Maru banks and Trance grabs hold of a stanchion. Beka presses a
button and Trance cannot let go.)
BEKA: Sit tight. Enjoy the show.
TRANCE: Beka. of all the people on the ship, I am the last one you
should be messing with.
BEKA: Tyr? Tyr?
TRANCE: Time to settle down.
BEKA: Time to act.
(Beka fires her weapons near the Andromeda.)
BEKA: No resistance. It's just a matter of time.
TRANCE: Time for what?
BEKA: I'm pushing it into the tunnel.
(The Maru nudges the Andromeda and sends it tumbling backwards.)
[Conduit]
(Alarms
sound. Hunt heads into the maintenance conduits. He jumps down a ladder
behind Harper, who has drawn his weapon.)
HUNT: I want you to reverse the powers of the jaws.
HARPER: What?
HUNT: Reverse the powers. Close off that tunnel for good, and it'll cut
off the rays.
HARPER: You really think the rays are controlling Tyr and Beka?
HUNT: I'm here crawling around in the conduit, aren't I?
HARPER: What if I can't? What if the rays won't shut off? Or worse,
what if the rays aren't what's driving all of this?
HUNT: Then I'll have to kill Tyr and Beka. Plan B always sucks.
[Auxiliary
control]
TYR:
Take us to these coordinates.
ROMMIE: Check.
(The Andromeda dot on the wall monitor moves away from them.)
TYR: Stop ignoring me.
ROMMIE: I followed your orders.
TYR: Dylan's alive.
ROMMIE: What makes you think that? What are you doing?
TYR: I'm erasing you. Your android existence will go on but
unfortunately I no longer need your intelligence.
ROMMIE: I followed your orders.
TYR: Is Dilly dead?
ROMMIE: I followed your orders.
TYR: How much of this ship do I control?
ROMMIE: I followed your orders.
TYR: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and now you're dead.
(The wall monitor goes blank.)
ROMMIE: The ship will be powerless.
TYR: No. The redundant system of the ship has taken over, keeping us
alive. We'll just float into the tunnel. It's almost over.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Okay, it's one thing to do a work of genius, but to reverse it? That is
Harper genius.
(He puts a box into the circular device that we must assume he
retrieved from
Command before it was depressurised and mended.)
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
Tyr? Tyr, come in. Where are you?
TRANCE: Andromeda is dead in the water. You're defeated.
BEKA: Yeah, right.
[Auxiliary
control]
HUNT
[OC]: Hello, Tyr, or whoever you are. This is your friendly Captain
speaking. I thought you should know that I'm still here.
TYR: You're of no consequence, Dylan.
[Conduit]
HUNT:
Don't hold back, Tyr. Tell me how you really feel.
[Auxiliary
control]
TYR: No,
I will not engage! Dylan, I will not engage! I will kill Rommie
[Conduit]
TYR
[OC]: And you will have no hope of ever getting your ship back online.
[Auxiliary
control]
TYR: And
let me further say that I will be the first to announce you as leper of
the solar system.
[Conduit]
HUNT:
That sounds like Tyr.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
The closer we get to the tunnel, the closer I get to cutting the rays
off. I think.
[Eureka
Maru]
TRANCE:
I can see things you know.
BEKA: What do you mean?
TRANCE: I'm talking about the future.
BEKA: The future is now.
TRANCE: Andromeda goes into the tunnel, but it is not what you think.
It's a world full of darkness, gnashing of teeth and remorse, let me
tell you about it.
BEKA: Go ahead. I'm not listening.
TRANCE: In the future, you and I go from place to place in search of
something, something that isn't important right now what. But in each
place, it was really tough. Each time the people were not happy to see
us, there was action, and violence, and each time you lost something,
whether it was an eye, or a leg, or an arm, or a kidney, and I repaired
you. In the end you were nothing more then a pathetic cyborg of tin,
leaking magnesium. I even had to put your head back on, but I couldn't
get the tongue to work exactly the way it ought to. But it was all for
my needs, not yours. You were a puppet either way. And that is your
future. You are going to end up being my puppet. So you might as well
be sitting on my knee and tell stupid jokes.
[Auxiliary
control]
(Hunt is
looking down on Rommie and Tyr.)
ROMMIE: What do you think is going when you get where you're going? Do
you think you'll still be in control?
TYR: What are you doing?
ROMMIE: I'm trying to find the real Tyr somewhere in this new one.
TYR: Oh. I am who I am.
ROMMIE: Well, you're not Tyr. Because Tyr wouldn't have killed the AI.
When you did that you killed yourself. You know that, don't you?
TYR: I can always reboot you.
ROMMIE: Only if I want to.
(Harper continues his work, and Hunt does a little rewiring. The
internal defence lasers start firing. Tyr goes to investigate and Hunt
comes out onto the catwalk above Rommie.)
[Eureka
Maru]
BEKA:
The future is now. That's all I know.
TRANCE: The future? Sometimes is seems like yesterday, sometimes today,
sometimes tomorrow. Imagine the possibilities.
(Trance breaths golden energy into her free hand and throws it at her
trapped one,
releasing herself.)
TRANCE: I'll take it from here.
(They fight.)
[Auxiliary
control]
(Tyr
returns. Hunt drops down in front of him.)
HUNT: I know it's an old line, but I just thought I'd drop in. I'm here
to take my ship back, Tyr.
TYR: Well, you can't have it. I'm doing something, one thing, without
you and against you and the joy is absolutely unrelenting and
enervating.
HUNT: You make joy sound like a toothache.
(Tyr knocks Hunt down.)
HUNT: Ow. Oh, joy.
(Tyr hits him again. Trance is evading Beka easily. Hunt starts to
fight back.)
HUNT: Our minds can see what we want to see, Tyr. That's what's
happened to you, and that's what's happened to me.
(Tyr tesseracts away.)
HUNT: You're being controlled, Tyr. Your fight's not with me, it's with
yourself. Fight with your mind.
(A semi-visible Tyr punches Hunt.)
HUNT: Damn it, Tyr! Listen to me. You are going against everything that
you know, everything that you believe in, everything
(Another semi-transparent punch lands him on the floor by Rommie's
stool.)
HUNT: Hi, Rommie. How am I doing?
ROMMIE: Not so good.
HUNT: Thanks.
[Machine
shop]
HARPER:
Bingo! I got it.
(Beka has got hold of Trance and is hurting her. Suddenly she stops
then falls to her knees.)
[Auxiliary
control]
(Tyr
fully materialises and growls as he puts his forearm across Hunt's
throat.)
TYR: Dylan?
HUNT: Tyr, are you back?
(Tyr releases Hunt.)
[Eureka
Maru]
TRANCE:
Beka? You all right?
[Auxiliary
control]
TYR:
Dylan, where was I?
HUNT: I don't know.
TYR: Do you remember a light? Yeah, yeah, there, there, there was this
light, all embracing light.
HUNT: No.
TYR: And, and, and, and then darkness. More darkness. And then, I'm
old. Tall and strong, and I'm afraid. But I held it, I held it in my
hand. Did I hurt you?
HUNT: No. Tyr, you did not lay a finger on our friendship, I can tell
you that. Not a scratch.
[Command]
(The
power returns.)
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Reboot complete.
HUNT: Excellent.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Would the captain like to lay in a course?
HUNT: How about anywhere but here.
ROMMIE: Aye, aye.
BEKA: (sotto) Tyr, do you er? Right. Yeah. Me neither.
[Maru
crew area]
(Beka
enters the ship, and hears noises and voices.)
BEKA: You guys, I almost shot you. What are you doing here?
ROMMIE: Well, it's pretty simple, Beka. I don't sleep.
TRANCE: And I don't sleep much.
(The area has been redecorated with drapes and candles.)
ROMMIE: And we thought we should be able to have a place to hang out.
BEKA: What for?
ROMMIE: Just because. I turn off most of my sensors, let the AI do all
the work, and. I mean, hey, even non-organics like to have friends.
BEKA: Oh. The ancient ritual. Girl talk.
ROMMIE: (smiles) Yeah.
(Beka sits in a hammock.)
ROMMIE: You know what, I'm tired of blue.
(Rommie shakes her head and her hair changes from short blue to longer
with red streaks.)
BEKA: I can do that.
[Command]
HUNT:
What happened to you, Tyr?
TYR: I don't know.
(Tyr removes his leather arm braces to reveal human forearms. No
Nietzschean bone blades.)
TYR: I remember. I don't know.
HUNT: It's good to have you back.
