Waking The Tyrant's Device

Original Airdate: 13 Oct, 2003

Fear drives the universe.
You will find dread among the galaxies.
You will find horror in the heart of a star.
You will find your fate in a heap of dust.

The Diktat of Septa Parisis,
CY 9015

[Command]

(In slipstream.)
BEKA: I can't hold it together.
HUNT: Increase AP power. Wide open on my mark.
HARPER: What? No, we've got to decrease.
BEKA: I'm losing it.
ROMMIE: The new converters may not hold.
HUNT: And mark!
(They come out of slipstream.)
HARPER: Whoo, baby! What the hell just happened? That does not happen every day.
ROMMIE: Converters held, AP reactors still intact, and plasma regulators are solid.
BEKA: Well, I'm glad you're so together. I'm a mess.
HUNT: That was good flying, Beka.
BEKA: Thanks. And how did you know going faster would kick us out?
HUNT: Oh, just a guess.
ROMMIE: Particle flux on control surfaces diminished with acceleration. We exited slipstream into a highly eccentric orbit around the planet Perliss Mott.
HUNT: And all the new equipment came through, colours flying. Excellent.
(The planet has a pretty ring system.)
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: We've been targeted by an attack drone from the seventh moon. It's on an intercept trajectory.
ROMMIE: Battle blades extending.
HUNT: Identify.
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Signature unknown.
HUNT: Enhance.
BEKA: It's coming directly from the surface of that moon. One attack drone, one shot.
HARPER: Ah, a little mosquito. For those that don't know, a mosquito is a little insect from Earth that you (swats his neck) because you never know what they're carrying. Give it a swat, Rommie.
BEKA: It's coming right at us.
(The Andromeda's shot refracts around the drone.)
HUNT: It's built for some other purpose.
BEKA: Built to die?
HARPER: So it's a suicide sucker or
HUNT: Retract blades now!
ROMMIE: Retracting.
(The drone fires and energy plays over the hull. Consoles go bang!)
HUNT: Never bet against the little guy.
HARPER: I've been telling people that.
ROMMIE: I'm losing power across all of my systems. Some type of energy leech has connected itself to me.
HUNT: Origin?
ROMMIE: Seventh moon, Septa Parisis.
BEKA: Orbit is degrading.
HARPER: It's humiliating.
HUNT: Pull us out of here.
HARPER: Boss, we're already at full thrust.
ROMMIE: There's an artificial gravity field that's canceling out my acceleration.
BEKA: Like I said, I'm barely keeping us in orbit here.
HUNT: Tell me we are not going to crash into that moon. Rommie?
ROMMIE: My emergency thrusters are counteracting the artificial gravity field, but as soon as my power reserves are gone, I will not be able to hold out.
HUNT: Which means we are going to crash into that moon. It's never easy.
(Power is streaming away from the Andromeda.)
ROMMIE: We are maintaining orbit. However, I must reiterate that the energy drain coupled with the gravity field, will eventually pull us into the moon.
HUNT: This is what caused our problems in slipstream.
ROMMIE: Affirmative. Localised destabilisation resulting from the artificially created gravity field emanating from that moon, Septa Parisis. And we're not the first ship it's captured.
HUNT: Yeah, but only the most powerful.
BEKA: Powerful enough to beat it?
HARPER: Rommie, sector G two two, infrared and radio wavelengths. Call me paranoid, but what does that look like?
HUNT: A point-singularity weapon. Last time we saw one of those
HARPER: The Magog Worldship? Anyone seen my stomach pump?
ROMMIE: Scanning the structure. Harper, you'll be relieved to know that it's not operational, although I do estimate completion within weeks.
BEKA: Let's blow the crap out of it.
HUNT: I would love to, but we can't spare the energy right now. But once we're out of danger, that is our first target.
ROMMIE: This is a very clever design. The power leech is on the moon's surface. The gravity field generator has been placed deep down inside the moon.
HARPER: So we destroy the surface part before it can shoot. Simple.
ROMMIE: Not so much. After energy mapping both machines, it appears that destroying only one would trigger a massive EM pulse, much larger than I'm rated for even after my retrofit. I'd have no power left to counteract the moon's gravitational pull.
HARPER: We're trapped unless we destroy both parts.
HUNT: At the same time. Fine. I love a challenge.

[Machine shop]

(Harper checks the AP rods.)
BEKA: I knew I'd heard it before. Septa Parisis, as in the treasure of?
HARPER: A treasure so fantastic, it's fantastic. Legendary, even. But to get to it, picture a place infested with Magog.
BEKA: Must we?
HARPER: No, let's not. Instead, we follow Harper's simple three step plan to fame and riches. Step one. Find a way not to crash and die.
BEKA: Right. So boosting the regulators, like we're doing, should deliver us enough power to get us step one.
HARPER: Step two, avoid the Magog like the Magog.
BEKA: Check.
HARPER: Step three, find treasure, live large.
BEKA: So large, large looks small, as in hand and foot being waited on instead of hand to mouth scraping by.
HARPER: Yeah. Can you see me? Personal attendants clearing a path through throngs of adoring women throwing themselves at my feet. Make way, make way for Seamus Zelazny Harper, the universe's richest, most eligible bachelor.
(Shudder, bang.)
BEKA: What say we just focus on step one?
HARPER: Okay.

[Hunt's quarters]

HUNT: Replay Tri-Lorn's message.
HOLO-PROJECTOR: Hello. You are now using the Commonwealth security coded artificial intelligence communication system allowing you and the sender interpersonal discussions through the use of a limited artificial intelligence. On a preordained schedule, each Commonwealth ship will be equipped with
HUNT: Skip that, Andromeda. You led me into a trap.
HOLO-TRI-LORN: As one of three Triumvirs, Tri-Jema, Tri-Ortiz, and myself, I am entrusted with the governing of the Commonwealth. I gave you an order. My job, your duty. The Triumvirate is not responsible for any problems that you encounter on your mission.
HUNT: Bad intelligence kills good soldiers.
HOLO-TRI-LORN: Search and destroy. It's a simple enough order, Captain. Follow it.
HUNT: Whoever created this has serious technology down there, and you knew that before you sent me here.
HOLO-PROJECTOR: Message not programmed to answer.
HUNT: Well, of course not. Any information would be helpful, sir.
HOLO-TRI-LORN: Commonwealth Intelligence believes that the moon Septa Parisis was created by one named Kroton, the Great Engineer. His particular gift comes from being half-android, half-human.
HUNT: The best of both worlds, or the worst.
HOLO-TRI-LORN: He designed the Magog Worldship, it's believed. We are unsure what plan he is embarked on now, but whatever it is, you must stop him. That is a Triumvirate order.
HUNT: I have to save my own ship first. That's enough, Andromeda. Pull all records on Kroton.
HOLO-ROMMIE: Kroton's origin is mysterious. The first sign of him was a solar disturbance in M-86 over four hundred years ago.
HUNT: Right. That's Saxena Troy. The magnetic field there is still fluctuating.
HOLO-ROMMIE: Then there was the computer virus on the planet Medak Major. The androids went berserk and wiped out the colonists.
HUNT: Well, if our man is down there on that moon, I think I may go berserk and wipe him out myself.

[Machine shop]

HARPER: Maybe I won't own an entire planet inhabited solely by women. It's unnecessary and too much responsibility. Besides, they'll be all over me anyway with that treasure.
BEKA: If it's gems, I say we keep the best and sell the rest.
HARPER: Now, that's thinking. What a kick, huh? Hidden treasure, power sucking moons, hungry Magog. It's like bedtime stories my Nana told me.
HUNT: But I will bet she didn't believe they were true, Mister Harper.
HARPER: Hey, boss, we didn't see you standing there.
HUNT: That you don't believe any of these treasure tales.
HARPER: If there is treasure, it logically follows that I deserve it, therefore we could find it and be filthy rich.
HUNT: Yes, but on the other hand?
HARPER: On the other hand, we could end up passing through the digestive tract of a Magog, and that's the happy ending.
BEKA: Right. It would be nice to find the treasure, but even nicer to stay alive.
HUNT: Priorities are important. So, the Maru in fifteen.
BEKA: Huh?
HUNT: Come on, Beka. You are good enough to slip us right through that energy web.
BEKA: We're going down.
HARPER: I knew it. Even Dylan can't resist the hunt of loot waiting to be looted. Er, if it actually exists.
HUNT: Tell you what, Harper. You can hunt for your little treasure just as long as we destroy both of those power sources within the next eleven point five seven six one hours. That's exactly how long we have before Andromeda crashes into that moon. If we're all still alive after that, well then, fine, knock yourself out. Be my guest. Hunt away for your treasure.
(Harper and Beka run out of the room.)
HUNT: Priorities.

[Corridor]

HUNT: I need you to stay here and hold down the fort.
TRANCE: You're concerned because what's down there is so powerful and destructive?
HUNT: That's right.
TRANCE: I'm ready to fight, Captain.
HUNT: Now is not the time.
TRANCE: I can't disagree with that. But, Dylan? Remember. What you're looking for is also looking for you.

[Eureka Maru]

ROMMIE: Descending to the sixth moon of Perliss Mott. The atmosphere is breathable, and the ion storm will be on us within the hour.
HARPER: I'm picking up a distress signal. Signature commonwealth standard.
BEKA: Survivors from a crashed ship?
HUNT: Get us as close to it as you can.
(The Maru lands.)

[Command]

ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: The growing ion storm on Septa Parisis makes communication unreliable.
TRANCE: What is the status of our orbit?
ANDROMEDA [on viewscreen]: Degradation of our orbit continues unabated. Impact into Septa Parisis now at eight hours fourteen minutes.

[Septa Parisis]

HUNT: There's got to be thousands of them down there.
BEKA: Biggest junkyard I've ever seen.
HARPER: Or the biggest crash test.
ROMMIE: A shallow layer of metal filings covers the surface. Residuum from vessels crashed here so long ago, they've now worn down to dust. The source of the distress signal is directly ahead.
BEKA: How much do you want to bet this whole mission is a Commonwealth scheme to get our treasure?
HARPER: Probably. Although this doesn't seem like the great idea it was thirty miles up.
(Someone starts shooting at them.)
HARPER: We're outnumbered!
HUNT: It's only one person! Rommie.
ROMMIE: Do I have to?
HUNT: Go.
(Rommie and Hunt split up and circle around the shooter. Rommie is walking stiff-legged, as if in pain. Hunt puts his forcelance to the back of the shooter's head.)
HUNT: Drop your weapon, and you can keep your head.
(She turns around.)
MOLLY: Dylan? Dylan Hunt?
HUNT: Hello, Molly.
(A little later -)
MOLLY: And then, finally, all I could do was crash the best I could.
BEKA: And out of seven people on your mission, you're the only one left?
MOLLY: Three of us survived. I'm the only one alive now. They were counting on me to bring them through in one piece, and I failed them, and they're dead now.
BEKA: Sometimes you can't keep your ship flying, no matter how hard you try.
HUNT: She's right, Molly. You can't blame yourself. Tell us about your mission.
MOLLY: We were after the Point Singularity weapon. I had a PS scientist and combat engineers on board.
HUNT: So your mission was to study the technology and bring that tower down.
ROMMIE: Why did you fire on us?
MOLLY: Once I was alone, about a week ago, the attacks started.
HARPER: Attacks? What attacks? Magog?
MOLLY: No, one guy. But sometimes he'd be everywhere at the same time.
ROMMIE: Dylan, we've got company.
(Shots are fired. Several androids are coming.)
HUNT: There is more than one guy.
(A man climbs onto a rock.)
MOLLY: That's him.
KROTON: Captain Hunt. Welcome to where you will die.
MOLLY: He knows you.
HUNT: Yeah, well, I'm a popular guy. To the Maru! Keep down. Let's go.
(Kroton's eyes flare red and he nods to his androids. They run back to the Maru and get into the airlock lift. Rommie is last and gets hit.)
HUNT: Good work, Rommie. Get in here.

[Eureka Maru]

(Harper spots a pair of androids setting up a power leech ray.)
HARPER: Boss, what do we do? We can't fire on them or that power sucker will get us.
BEKA: We'll be stuck here forever.
HUNT: Well, if you're dead, you don't know you're stuck.
HARPER: Point taken. Firing.
(Splat go the androids, but -)
BEKA: Dylan, there's some kind of energy net over us.
HUNT: Well, the good news is we're stuck, but we're alive.
HARPER: What's the bad news?
HUNT: We're stuck.

[Maru engine room]

(Doing emergency welds.)
HARPER: There, that should hold. If we're lucky, five minutes maybe.
MOLLY: This moon sucks, literally. Anything with a power source, it drains.
ROMMIE: Trance has located a large biomass somewhere nearby. It could also be the source of our power leech.
HUNT: So the question is, how do we get there.
HARPER: You know, I made some modifications during that last retrofit, to this piece of
BEKA: Don't you insult my ship.
HUNT: Well, whatever you did, Mister Harper, now might be a good time to test whatever you did.

[Eureka Maru]

HARPER: Everything's operative. I just. I need more juice.
ROMMIE: Well, if all you need is a little extra power.
(Rommie transfers some of her own via a console. The cockpit seals off properly and two more seats with belts appear. Extra bulkheads have extra equipment.)
HUNT: Harper, where do you find time to do this?
ROMMIE: My bio-batteries can run a vehicle this small for some time.
HARPER: Great things in small, and in this case hot, packages. Now, stand back and prepare to be amazed.
(The cockpit module leaves the Maru.)
BEKA: Harper, you're a genius.
HARPER: I know. And you, Rom-doll, are my hero.
ROMMIE: I know.
HUNT: Very good, Mister Harper. Now take us out of here.
HUNT: Radio-controlled explosives. Where did you learn to make these?
MOLLY: Military Academy.
HUNT: That's very impressive.
MOLLY: Captain Hunt, something else I learned at Military Academy is chain of command. I intend to follow it. Lieutenant Molly Noguchi reporting for duty, sir.
HUNT: Well, Lieutenant. Sorry.
MOLLY: There's been a break in another kind of chain. That's when, you know, two people have been, you know, and then one doesn't talk to the other one for nearly three years.
HUNT: Molly, two years, and I can explain.
MOLLY: Well, certain formalities need to be observed.
HUNT: Ah. Until certain links in that chain have been reforged.
MOLLY: Mmm hmm.
HUNT: Well, I er, I can work with that.
MOLLY: Good.
HUNT: Good. I'm all for doing the right thing. All right. Let's see if anybody's home. Molly and I will take the surface installation. You three have the one embedded inside the moon. Contact me when your explosive is in place.
BEKA: Let's hope Rommie holds out that long. We'll see you back here in exactly seven hours.
HUNT: Actually, it's six hours and fifty nine minutes, but hey, who's counting? Mister Harper?
(Harper opens the exit hatch, and Hunt and Molly leave. The cockpit flies on.)
BEKA: What's that?
ROMMIE: Ogami transport. Markings match the Red Fedorov, lost three hundred and sixteen years ago.
HARPER: Rommie, what was the cargo on the Fedorov?
ROMMIE: Cargo listed as serial quantum chips.
HARPER: Serial quantum chips? Sheesh. Those babies are only the fastest, smallest micro-processors ever built. Virtually unobtainable since the fall of the Commonwealth. They're probably worth a
HARPER + BEKA: Treasure!
(High five.)
HARPER + BEKA: Jackpot.

[Surface installation]

HUNT: You know, Lieutenant, you're right. This first name basis thing is overrated. But still, Molly is a very pretty name.
MOLLY: Hmm. Dylan. Sounds like a villain.
HUNT: Oh, really? Well, I can be a little bit nasty, but I'm definitely one of the good guys.
(But before their lips can touch, people start shooting at them.)
MOLLY: That same guy again. And again. What are the odds of identical triplets all being on the same planet, all wanting to kill us?
HUNT: I'd say those odds are pretty good. I've had a lot of strange things happen to me the last three hundred and six years.
(One of the Krotons taps a flexi.)
HUNT: Uh oh. This can't be good.
(The ground gives way and they roll down a slope.)

[Underground]

HUNT: Oh, you okay?
MOLLY: I'm still alive. You?
HUNT: Oh, I've had better days. Target's that way. Go. Go.

[Cockpit]

BEKA: Dylan? Lost him. Ion turbulence is the worst.
HARPER: Makes me just a little nervous about setting off two explosions at the same time.
BEKA: We can't raise the Andromeda either?
ROMMIE: Negative. I estimate six point five hours until Andromeda is incinerated.
HARPER: Hey, hey, hey. Nothing's incinerating, unless you count the rock and dirt this baby's going to burn.
BEKA: This is going to work, right, Harper?
HARPER: Please. The pulsed laser creates a local vacuum tunnel. I squirt AP right down the middle of it one microgram at a time, and then it cuts like a hot knife through protein paste.
BEKA: Harper?
HARPER: Or the antiprotons blow back into the nose cone, and we turn into a lovely bouquet of carbon atoms.
BEKA: Hmm. And target vector is one three seven degrees downhill all the way.
ROMMIE: Powering up pulsed laser.
HARPER: Rommie, are you okay?
(Rommie is slowing down rapidly.)
ROMMIE: Just do what you have to do, Harper.
HARPER: It's working! Ha! Ha ha! Whoo! Cutting through and going in.
(The cockpit goes down the shaft it has created.)

[Underground]

HUNT: Okay, let me get our bearings so I can locate our target.
MOLLY: Oh, a heat exchange unit. We had this kind back home.
(Molly wets a cloth with water from the unit and cleans her neck.)
MOLLY: God, I feel like the whole first layer of my skin is dirt.
HUNT: Got it. All right, Molly, lets head out.
MOLLY: Molly? We're not on a first name basis yet.
HUNT: Yeah, I forgot. The rules of engagement.
MOLLY: The chain of command.
HUNT: Okay. You're in charge.
(She throws the damp cloth at him.)
HUNT: Cute.
(They move on. Later - the sound of marching feet.)
MOLLY: That sounds like an army. More members of the look-alike club.
HUNT: Way more. And they're headed our way.
MOLLY: I really don't want to be around to see this.
HUNT: No argument here.
MOLLY: Wait, wait. What if it's a trick?
HUNT: Well, there's one way to find out.
(Hunt goes to a nearby passage and fires down it. Someone fires back. They run.)
HUNT: It's a very good trick.
MOLLY: Whoever or whatever they are, they're still coming. Jeez, they're loud.
HUNT: Door.
(Lasers fire at them.)
MOLLY: It's an auto-defence system. Where are we?
HUNT: According to this, between a rock and a spare part.

[Cockpit]

ROMMIE: I'm feeling unusual. Tachyon diagnostic echo delta niner zero complete. Targeting systems, inertial guidance
HARPER: Rommie?
ROMMIE: Propulsion. Harper? I'm not. My mind isn't.
BEKA: It's the power drain.
HARPER: Just my luck. A woman with her higher brain functions on hold.
ROMMIE: Not on hold. I'm losing coherence in my cognitive ability.
HARPER: Don't you go on me.
ROMMIE: I'm Rommie, not Mommy.
(Harper hugs Rommie.)
ROMMIE: Harper?
HARPER: Yes.
ROMMIE: Don't cling to me.
HARPER: Right. That's weird. I'm detecting a major shift in density. Hold on!
(He gets thrown to the floor.)
HARPER: Everyone okay?
BEKA: What was that?
ROMMIE: We're level again, ninety degrees to our previous vector.
HARPER: Let's give your batteries a rest.
ROMMIE: Thank you, Harper. It feels like you care.
HARPER: Only in the worst way.
BEKA: We're in some sort of cave.
HARPER: Let's take a look.
(Light floods into the cockpit.)
HARPER: Whoa, the ground's reflective or something.
BEKA: Ahem. I guess it's not a cave.
ROMMIE: I'm feeling a little better now that I'm not sharing power. Why don't we try this?
(She sends off a flare to illuminate that they are in a vast constructed area containing planetoids linked around a central spiky object. A mini-Worldship.)

[Underground]

MOLLY: We're trapped.
HUNT: Yeah. We need to find a way to slow those bad boys down.
(He checks some of the nearest spare parts.)
HUNT: Hmm. A power coupler. Find me a capacitor, fifty mega-farads. Two is better.
MOLLY: Ah, the old make an overload bomb out of the available materials plan. I like this plan. And then all you have to do is
HUNT: Charge it with my forcelance.
(Which he does, and throws it at the nearest entrance, which collapses in the explosion, blocking them in.)
MOLLY: And now on to plan B?
HUNT: Well, we're farther along in the alphabet, but yeah.
MOLLY: We've got to shut down that auto-defence system.
HUNT: Well, maybe I'll ask it to turn itself off.
MOLLY: I will grant you your charm can be very persuasive, but how are you going to do that?
HUNT: I'll make the defence system think that someone else is at the control panel.
(He bounces a piece of metal off a nearby barrel and up to the panel. The laser shoots it and the panel, and the door opens.)
HUNT: Ha.
MOLLY: How do you think these things up?
HUNT: You're not the only one who graduated from the Academy.

[Cavern]

(They run out onto a rock ledge overlooking -)
MOLLY: An army of androids.
HUNT: This would qualify as a threat to the Commonwealth.
KROTON [OC]: You are created to hate organic kind. Destroy what you hate. Hate is your reason to bring darkness.
MOLLY: That is not a healthy internal narrative.
HUNT: No.
(Hunt goes to a handy set of nearby consoles.)
HUNT: All these ships, they're powering up his android army.
MOLLY: Andromeda's topping off their tanks.
HUNT: This is a battle waiting to happen. It's never going to happen.
MOLLY: Why don't we just use this?
(Her bag of explosives.)
HUNT: That's for our target. It's the only way to save the Andromeda. But first, we have to destroy this android army before they reach the Magog. Looks like it's time for another improv. What's your plan?
MOLLY: You are kidding.
HUNT: Molly, we are a team.
MOLLY: Spoken like a true gentleman. Did I mention that according to some rules of engagement, a kiss is the reward for an honourable act?
HUNT: Really?
MOLLY: Mmm hmm.
HUNT: For luck.
MOLLY: Right. Okay. We need power, power is the key, or overpower. We could burn out their processors with an EMP surge.
HUNT: That's a good idea, but keep it simple. Look around and use what you've got.
MOLLY: Oh, a thruster from an old Brio missile.
HUNT: That's excellent. Nothing beats low tech, especially when you're making a bomb.
MOLLY: We need fuel.
HUNT: Ah ha, let's see. We have it. It's in the cone.
(Hunt opens the thruster to reveal a leaking fuel tank.)
MOLLY: Well, how do we launch it?
HUNT: We don't. Chain reaction.
MOLLY: We let the fuel do the work.
HUNT: Exactly.
(He carefully places the little thruster on a nice stone ledge overlooking the army.)
HUNT: This they didn't teach at the Academy.
(They retreat to a safe distance. Molly readies her forcelance.)
MOLLY: Shall I?
HUNT: Be my guest.
(Bang whoosh kaBOOM! The android army is flattened by one little thruster fuel cell.)

[Cockpit]

BEKA: How's that explosive coming, Harper?
HARPER: All set.
BEKA: Let's do it.

[GFG Control room]

(They put their bomb on a big shiny control console.)
HARPER: Okay. We're in business, and with time to spare.
BEKA: No sense sticking around.

[Power leech control]

HUNT: Our target is right there. Let's set that bomb and get out of here.
(A pair of Krotons start shooting at them.)
HUNT: Take cover! Argh!
MOLLY: You're hit.
(Another Kroton enters.)
KROTON: Time for this to end, Captain Hunt. You can go no further. I am Kroton. The original.
HUNT: Original what.
MOLLY: Original creep.
KROTON: With the help of the Magog, I will lead a revolt of androids, and the Commonwealth will fall.
HUNT: Not on my watch!
(Hunt shoots at Kroton, to no effect.)
KROTON: I'm not finished with you, Captain Hunt.
HUNT: Well, that's too bad, because I'm finished with you!
KROTON: I was created to destroy all organics.
HUNT: Well, that's pretty funny, because you're a half-organic. It must be awfully hard to live with yourself.
KROTON: No! I am complete. The Commonwealth is helpless without you, Captain Hunt. That is why we brought you here to die.
HUNT: Oh no, no, no, no. You're not supposed to tell me the ending. Now you've spoiled everything.
(He throws a device and shoots it, creating a shockwave that knocks out the android Krotons, and nearly himself.)
HUNT: Molly!
(She is unconscious. Kroton starts throwing Hunt around.)
KROTON: I am the Great Engineer, the Mover of Worlds. My age is more than five hundred of your years.
HUNT: Well, that's as old as you're going to get.
(Hunt gets the worst of the fist fight.)
KROTON: I will see the end of all organics.
HUNT: Speaking as an organic, I don't think so.
KROTON: You will not interfere with me.
HUNT: I've got news for you, pal. I already am. Who's going to stop me?
KROTON: Darkness. My ally.
(Molly shoots Kroton in the back several times. He turns and she shoots him in the front, too. He falls sideways.)
MOLLY: How's that for darkness?
HUNT: You have some anger issues, don't you.
MOLLY: You look like hell.
HUNT: Oh, I had him right where I wanted him. Hurry up.
MOLLY: Okay, it's set.
HUNT: Let's get out of here.

[Mini-Maru]

HARPER: How are we doing for time, Rommie?
(Rommie is sharing power with the cockpit again.)
ROMMIE: We have ninety two minutes until rendezvous with Dylan.
HARPER: Red Fedorov off the port side. Beka, that's an hour and a half of treasure hunting.
BEKA: Quantum memory chips. Seamus, you read my mind.

[Corridor]

(Trance has previously been prowling the corridors looking for something.)
TRANCE: I don't feel it any more.
ANDROMEDA [on monitor]: There are no system malfunctions, although I do detect a
TRANCE: Andromeda? Are you there?
(The lights go out.)
TRANCE: I have it with me. We will defeat you. Light. Illumination. Creation. There is no place where light cannot be born.
(The lights come back on.)
ANDROMEDA [on monitor]: Although I do detect a negative energy source somewhere nearby. Trance? Have you been injured?
TRANCE: No. But I need to contact Dylan.
ANDROMEDA [on monitor]: The ion storm has completely disrupted communication with the moon.

[Power leech control]

(Kroton reawakens.)
KROTON: Time for the primary event.
(His eyes flare red.)
KROTON: Yes, I hear. Yes, I obey.

[Mini-Maru]

(Beka and Harper are loading boxes.)
BEKA: That's it. We've got to go.
HARPER: What? The storm's breaking. I can go back for one more load.
BEKA: Ah ah.
ROMMIE: Harper, we only have eighteen minutes until we rendezvous with Dylan.
(The little ship shakes.)
HARPER: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
BEKA: We've overstayed our welcome.

[Rendezvous point]

(Molly and Hunt are running from the Krotons, and occasionally stopping to return fire.)
HUNT: Storm's breaking. Maybe we'll get lucky. Harper, Beka, do you copy?
MOLLY: I am so tired of shooting at the same individual.

[Command]

TRANCE: Dylan, do you read me?

[Rendezvous point]

HUNT: Trance, talk to me.

[Command]

TRANCE: The moon is shaking itself to pieces. You have to get out of there.

[Rendezvous point]

HUNT: Er, Trance, I'm a little busy right now. Can we talk later?
TRANCE [OC]: You'll have to leave now or there won't be a later.
MOLLY: Let's pretend like this might be the end.
HUNT: Pretend?
MOLLY: Yeah, because then I can say things like if only we had more time, and all that.
HUNT: Molly, we don't have to pretend. This might be it.
(He kisses her long and hard.)
HARPER [OC]: Boss, we're about one minute out. Are you okay?
(They come up for air.)
HUNT: Yeah, we'll be right there.
(Beka and Harper lay down covering fire from the hatch of Mini-Maru.)
HUNT: Go! Go!

[Mini-Maru]

HUNT: Harper, you're late. Beka, go!
BEKA: I'm all over it.
HUNT: What am I looking at?
HARPER: Boss, we're rich.
HUNT: Only if we get off this moon.
HARPER: Speaking of this moon? The entire place is hollow. Built by a freaking genius.
HUNT: Yeah, he also happened to build the Magog Worldship.
HARPER: Make that evil psychotic genius.
HUNT: Trance, bombs are in place. Activate so we can get out of here.

[Command]

TRANCE: Igniting.

[Mini-Maru]

(KaBOOM! KaBOOM!)
ROMMIE: Full power is restored. I'm raising Andromeda up to a standard orbital track and beginning launch sequence on the Maru's main engines.
HUNT: Beka, fast would be great.
BEKA: Engine's at full throttle now.
HUNT: That's not what I wanted to hear. Harper?
(The Eureka Maru lifts off and reconnects with its cockpit.)

[Command]

ROMMIE: A tectonic fracture has expanded along the equator.
BEKA: The moon's splitting into two hemispheres.
TRANCE: Mountain ranges along the leading equator are breaking apart.
HUNT: They're hinges. Giant hinges.
(The moon breaks open to reveal the mini-Worldship.)
HUNT: That's why it was so bright down there. The mirrors. They're some kind of focusing mechanism for a light-based weapon. Where does he get this stuff?
MOLLY: Do you really think he survived the explosions?
HUNT: I do now. That entire moon is a ship. He's going to rendezvous with the Magog Worldship.
BEKA: Together, they're going to be unstoppable.
ROMMIE: It's slipstream capable. He's powering up the GFG lens.
MOLLY: Androids can't navigate slipstream.
HUNT: Kroton is half-human. Rommie, route all power to the gravity field generators. Make me five slipstream portals.
BEKA: So he can't open one of his own.
ROMMIE: And only one of the five will be any good.
HUNT: Exactly. Five doors and only one way out.
MOLLY: And Kroton can't tell the difference.
HUNT: Well, that's the plan.
ROMMIE: He's hailing us.
HUNT: Screen.
KROTON [on viewscreen]: Haven't you failed enough?
HUNT: Five choices. Guess right, and you're back with the Magog. Guess wrong, and you're space dust. Not a problem if you're an organic.
KROTON [on viewscreen]: The human in me calls your bluff, and the android in me will win.
HUNT: Yeah, but I'll bet the Abyss in you is very, very uncomfortable. Go ahead, Kroton. Pick one.
ROMMIE: Dylan, if Kroton is wrong, the resulting explosion could vaporise us.
HARPER: Okay, the Harper in me thinks this plan sucks.
BEKA: Yeah, that's not a very good plan.
MOLLY: No, if we move to safety, he'll know. We have to bluff. I love this plan.
HUNT: Thank you.
ROMMIE: He's choosing.
(KaBOOM! The shockwave rocks the Andromeda.)
HUNT: Well?
TRANCE: Hull integrity stable. We're going to make it.
ROMMIE: A capsule escaped the blast. It is entering the correct portal.
MOLLY: Well, we got him this time. We can get him again next time.
HUNT: Yeah, but the Worldship is still out there, and it's headed our way.

[Machine shop]

(Harper is examining the serial quantum chips one by one.)
HARPER: My luck.
BEKA: And mine. Who knew they'd be ruined by years of exposure to cosmic rays?
HARPER: How can the only options be poor and alive, rich and dead?
BEKA: For now, Harper. Someday you may be able to buy your Mom those shoes.
HARPER: Yeah, maybe. Then again, she always wanted a blender. Next time, Ma.

[Hunt's quarters]

(Sharing a bottle of wine.)
MOLLY: Clean clothes. Oh, and that shower.
HUNT: Yeah, but I was beginning to like you the other way.
MOLLY: Oh. Well, thank you, I think.
HUNT: I was liking it so much that I thought maybe I'd offer you a spot on the Andromeda.
MOLLY: You want me around?
HUNT: Oh yeah. It feels like you're part of the team.
MOLLY: Yeah, it does, doesn't it?
HUNT: Mmm hmm.
MOLLY: So, should we pretend we're in danger so we can kiss?
HUNT: Why should we pretend?
(They kiss.)
MOLLY: I can't.
HUNT: Why not?
MOLLY: Because you inspire me.
HUNT: Hmm. Well. Thank you, I think.
MOLLY: No, I mean you inspire me to have my own life, out there, wherever there is. You do that for me.
HUNT: Then it's a good thing, Molly, and I never mess around with a good thing.
MOLLY: Yes, you do.
HUNT: Yeah, I do.
